Internet Cafe

I am in some beach town in Thailand. The name sounds kinda like Hawaii (Hua Hin I think) I’m at an internet café as my Seidler relatives run around doing errands.

Speaking of Internet Cafés, I thought of a great idea. I have never seen an internet café in America, but why not … I think it would work especially well in these small Midwest towns… not everyone has the internet, and people could stop in buy a coffee or something and do their email. Students could come after school and hang out or play games on the computers. You could build relationships with people and provide a safe place to have the internet. You could make it a business, or a non-profit thing. I think it could really work. All you need is a couple computers and internet connection. So if any of you wants to use this idea go ahead.

So I didn’t have much time, and now I need to go, fare well.

  • There are Internet cafes in the US, though not really in smaller towns. I think the big thing these days is to provide wireless access at places because so many people have their own laptops. It's probably easier to do wireless access because you don't have to have the computer terminals taking up so much space. I wonder how they can afford to do it free, though. Maybe because it attracts more customers? You can get it at the libraries, Barnes and Noble (though I think you usually have to pay for it there), Panera, the Mud House and most places downtown. Now, in Thailand and so on, is it only a place for computer access, or do they sell food and stuff there, too?

  • Hey Luke...It sounds like you are having a wonderful time in Laos and Thailand. Dr. Larson gave me your blog address, so I hope you don't mind me reading it (though I don't think you would because of a previous comment on an earlier blog). Your blogs are very interesting. I am very very excited to go to China. I have raised over $2,000 towards my trip. PTL! I hope you are feeling better. I am praying for you that your teaching will go well. I read on an earlier blog that you also got sick on the plane ride over. I posted a comment but I don't know if it went through. There is a drug called Dramamean (don't know if that is the correct spelling) that helps with motion sickness. I am not sure if you will be able to find it over there but it might be worth looking for if it would help you on the plane ride to China. Well, I'd better go my time is almost up for using the internet. See you in China.

  • Hi Luke. Dr. Larson gave the rest of us on the China team your blog address as I'm sure you know by now. This is the first time I've had a chance to access it though and I read all your previous entries! This is a great idea, by the way to let people back home know how you're doing and what you're up to. Reading about all the new things you're experiencing makes me more excited to get to China! Have fun with your teaching. You'll be a pro for China! Take care.

  • Hmmm sounds a little Adventures in Odyessy to me.(sp) But it would be nice in South Dakota since there are a lot of places where you can't get the net.
